In the Baptist tradition, the concept of the Trinity (the way we are in relationship with God) is exemplified in our titles for "priest" because said titles are based on the faith leader's relationship to the people.
I am "Reverend" to all, based on the fact that a faith tradition has ordained me and I have been thoroughly trained. To those I have no relationship to, I am Rev.
I am "Minister" in the Baptist tradition; all Baptists who endeavor to help others foster a relationship with God through Jesus are recognized as such by one another, regardless of education, based solely on shared Faith. To those I have a relationship with, but not a relationship where I personally lead, I am Min.
I am "Pastor" specifically to those I lead on their personal faith journey with God. A Pastor has an intimate relationship with his/her flock. A Pastor lays down his/her life for his/her sheep. To those I lead spiritually, I am PK.
Three ways to be in relationship with a religious leader in the Baptist tradition. Mirroring the three ways to be in relationship with God. Relationship is the path Jesus called us to.
