How can you possibly facilitate meaningful, faithful conversation in a bar, especially in New England?

Authenticity.

By being authentically Christian, I have discussed faith with both coworkers and patrons of each bar I have worked in over the last decade. Never once did I force my faith on anyone, but rather let them come to me in their own time and space. They approached me with questions of faith because my own faith was the forefront of our interactions.

I wear my cross; I read my Bible & pray in public spaces; I use "Amen" as my everyday affirmative answer. By being authentically Christian I make space for others to observe my actions; their observations teach them it is safe to ask questions, both great and small, regarding their faith or lack thereof. Just by living my faith in my everyday life, the Spirit moves others to question.

If our faith is true, our authenticity will be evident through our lived testimonies. That authentic testimony facilitates discussions of faith or lack thereof even in a tavern. Christians just need to be authentic for the Spirit to work through us.
